Africa Integrity attended the South Sudan Investment Conference held in Juba from 3rd to 5th December 2013. The conference, which was addressed by his Excellency President Salva Kiir of South Sudan and a number of senior ministers, brought together existing and potential investors in this emerging country from across the world. The event was characterised by a vibrancy and energy that reflects the opportunities for investment that abound, in sectors as diverse as agriculture and forestry, infrastructure, tourism, oil and gas and mining.
South Sudan is barely two years old: it emerged from nearly four decades of conflict to declare its independence in July 2011. Understandably, the country requires a great deal of commitment from the commercial and aid worlds in order to realise its considerable economic potential. It is not an easy working environment, but Africa Integrity is satisfied that the operational, security and ethical challenges posed can be surmounted. A number of case-studies that reinforced this view were presented at the conference by existing investors.
Africa Integrity has been active in South Sudan since it was founded in 2010 and has close working links with the Government of South Sudan. Founder and Managing Director Julian Fisher has been travelling to the country since 2006, shortly after the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement that led to South Sudan’s independence. With the benefit of this long-standing experience and attendance at the investment conference, we are pleased to offer a free briefing to clients and prospective clients on the opportunities and challenges presented by this exciting new market. Please contact us as soon as possible to take advantage of this offer.
