On Africa Integrity Insights, we look ahead to March 2018, examining some of the key events coming up this month. These include the following:

  • A Three Horse Race in Sierra Leone: Following Kandeh Yumkella’s split from the SLPP, it looks like there are three main contenders for Sierra Leone’s presidency, which is on course to be decided through a run-off.
  • Time’s up for Zimbabweans on Mnangagwa’s Name and Shame List: As the three-month amnesty for those involved in the misappropriation of public funds comes to a close, it seems likely that President Emmerson Mnangagwa will take this opportunity to damage the reputations of potential adversaries in Zanu-PF.
  • Sissi Set for Another Victory in Egypt: There is no doubt that President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi will secure a second term, but his restriction of Egypt’s democratic space and persecution of senior military figures, while effective in impeding the opposition in the short-term, could cause greater problems for Sissi going forward.

Articles on each of these matters are available here.
