On Africa Integrity Insights we look ahead to February 2018, examining some of the key events next month. These include the following:

  • Guinea’s Long Awaited Local Elections After years of delays, it has finally been agreed that Guinea’s local elections will be held on 4th February 2018 and, given the importance of the elections and the rise in social unrest in 2017, tensions are likely to be high.
  • Zuma’s Last State of the Nation Address After much speculation over whether he would still be president, it appears that Jacob Zuma will open South Africa’s parliament one last time, while the ANC’s National Executive Committee (NEC) debate his future.
  • Djibouti Goes to the Polls With a divided opposition coalition undecided on whether to boycott next month’s legislative election, it looks as if President Ismaïl Guelleh’s ruling UMP will consolidate its position as the country’s ruling party.

Articles on each of these matters are available here.
